About FundAlign

FundAlign shows you what's actually inside the funds in your 401(k) or IRA: where they hold the same stocks, what they cost, and how combining them changes your mix of stocks and bonds, explained in plain English.

Who's behind it

FundAlign is built and operated by Artemis Collective LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. Its founder has spent more than 20 years in institutional equity markets and built FundAlign to give individual savers the same kind of look-through analysis professionals use.

Where the data comes from

• Holdings: from each fund's most recent public Form N-PORT filing with the SEC. Every fund shows the date its holdings are as of. Funds usually file quarterly, and filings become public about 60 days after the quarter ends.
• Target-date and fund-of-funds: we look through to the underlying funds so overlap reflects the actual stocks and bonds.
• Expense ratios: from each fund's prospectus fee table as filed with the SEC (net of fee waivers when reported), or its latest shareholder report, shown with the filing date. Your plan's fee disclosure is the authoritative source.
• Plan-only trusts (CITs) and other funds that don't file with the SEC: holdings and expense ratios are estimated, from our own reference table or from public sources found with AI-assisted web search. These are always labeled "Estimated."
• Fund categories and short descriptions: written by AI from public information.

How overlap is measured

For each pair of funds, we add up the portion of holdings, by weight, the two funds have in common. If a stock is 7% of one fund and 5% of another, it contributes 5 points of overlap. The diversification score is 100 minus the average overlap across all pairs.

Where AI comes in

For funds that file with the SEC, holdings and fees come from the filings, not from AI. We use AI (Anthropic's Claude) to read fund lists from screenshots you upload, to match fund names to tickers, to describe each fund's category, to estimate holdings for funds that don't file with the SEC (labeled "Estimated"), to estimate overlap for any pair of funds where filed holdings aren't available for both (also labeled as estimated), and to explain the results in plain English.

AI does not pick the funds or weights in the example mixes. Those follow fixed rules that are the same for everyone: every fund you enter is used, grouped as mostly-stock or mostly-bond, weighted equally within its group, and the two groups are combined to approach 30%, 50% and 70% stocks.

What FundAlign is not

FundAlign is an educational tool. It is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer and does not give personalized investment advice. It doesn't recommend funds, plan elections or rollovers. Example mixes are generic illustrations that don't consider your age, goals, risk tolerance or other assets. For advice about your situation, talk to a qualified financial professional.

Your data

We never ask for your account login or credentials. All we need are fund names or ticker symbols. We don't sell your data. See the privacy policy for exactly what we store and how to delete it.
